What do I do if I found an animal?
If you find a lost pet in Alameda County, first check the collar for tags and then take the animal to a nearby vet or to the county shelter to be scanned for a microchip.
Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) — call for found-pet instructions: 510-337-8565
Oakland Animal Services — brings found pets in during open hours; they also scan for microchips and maintain found/lost listings. 510-535-5602
Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS) advises taking a found pet to the nearest vet or shelter to be scanned for a microchip and filing a found report with the County.
Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS) — 925-608-8400.
Post a clear photo, location, and short description on Nextdoor, local Facebook lost & found groups, and Petco Love Lost/24PetConnect — owners often check these first.
Leave a found-pet flyer in the area where you found the animal (include your contact info and a photo).
